October spotlight:  The Church of Restoration

Oct. 17, 2011 Chris Underwood

Stop by the Commons Area this Sunday to learn about the amazing things the Church of Restoration is doing in the Birmingham area.  Operated by Rev. Al Lewis and his wife, Pashion, this remarkable ministry offers an after-school program for children, a food bank, and a rehabilitation program for drug addicts.

In the after school and summer program for elementary and high school students – called the Dream Garden Ministry – Pashion Lewis continually needs volunteers to offer help with study and companionship to the students in her care. Most of the students are from varying types of backgrounds and may not have routine input from adults.  They may be in poverty circumstances.

In the addiction clinic located at the church parsonage, Rev. Al Lewis helps those overcoming drug and alcohol dependency. One of Al’s beneficiaries from the recovery clinic is Brother Moore, who has become an all around servant at the mission and now oversees the food pantry.

Volunteers are welcome, including Jr. and Sr. high students. Several Trinity students currently participate once a week in the after school ministry. They are successfully encouraging the youngsters they have made friends with to come and enjoy ELEMENT student ministry at Trinity.
